Multi-tenant Signs for Westwood Financial
This week, Sign Artist completed our largest project for Westwood Financial, a national commercial real estate developer. Our crew fabricated multi-tenant sign panels for a 16-foot pylon sign at Elk Crossing Shopping Center, Elk Grove Village, Illinois. The applied vinyl on polycarbonate panels replaced old signage that was faded, peeling, and with outdated logos.
The reveal of the new sign includes a striking image of an elk, apropos of the shopping center’s theme. Well-known signs and logos from Panera Bread, Jewel-Osco, Great Clips, T-Mobile, Auto Zone, Citibank and Doctors of Physical Therapy, filled our studio this week, until thepanels were successfully installed yesterday. The result is a nice, clean look for Elk Crossing!
Before our Elk Crossing project, Sign Artist was asked to arrange for a Covid-19 curbside pickup base and post sign for Elk Crossing Shopping Center. Sign Artist installed this colorful trio of directional signs Westwood Financial, clearly marking curbside service for the shopping center visitors.
The project was unique, in that the foundations of four signs needed to be filled with 600 pounds of sand, to keep them stable! That put a new twist on the sun and sand concept, for our father-daughter crew that day.
Westwood first contacted Sign Artist pre-Covid era, after finding us online. This management corporation asked us to install a small directional sign for shops at picturesque Elmhurst City Center in downtown Elmhurst, Illinois.
Our favorite thing to do, is to provide multiple signs of all varieties to our happy repeat customers. Now…how might we serve you?
Sign Artist Draws Repeat Customers, Installing Business Signs With “PACE”
In Sign Artist’s early days, we developed a model of operation we called “PACE.” It’s an efficient and effective strategy to keep clients happy, as we fabricate and install their commercial signage. We’ve stuck by it ever since:
P roductivity: We create and install great signs, that turn heads and generate business
A daptability: We work flexibly with each unique client and project
C reativity: We blend striking designs with distinctive materials to make signs that inspire
E fficiency: We value clear communication and goals, reliable turn-around, high quality and clean installation
Yes, at Sign Artist, we “PACE” ourselves with these values and goals. The end result is loyal customers who turn to us time and again. For example, Drive Train Services in Bensenville, Illinois is a repeat customer, who benefits from a Sign Artist original Covid A-frame sign, vinyl application exterior directional signs, large exterior acrylic business signs mounted on brick, and dock signs.
Latsko Enterprises contracted Sign Artist for 200-plus interior and exterior signs for its Clark and Diversey high-rise residential property, including: ADA Braille directional signs; 3-dimensional, LED-illuminated entryway address numbers; brushed bronze, branded intercom panel; and framed evacuation map.
Sandburg Village in Chicago is a repeat Sign Artist customer, asking for several fabrication/install sessions for vinyl directional signs.
Chicago Cred asked Sign Artist for a cityscape wall mural, and is now asking for office nameplates.
Granite Transformations is a regional business, that has benefited from Sign Artist retractable signs and vehicle graphics.
The DUMP furniture store in Deerfield, IL, asked Sign Artist to install a large, illuminated channel letter sign for its showroom, and an applied vinyl mission statement that covered a full wall, 20 feet above the floor. Our studio was asked to return, to apply more text to an interior showroom wall.
Integrity Exteriors has returned time and again, for a Sign Artist banner and to apply company branding to its fleet of vehicles.
Elmhurst University in Elmhurst and University of Illinois in Chicago are also repeat customers, returning to Sign Artist for an array of sign needs, such as monuments, directories/maps, wall murals, vehicle graphics, 3-dimensional acrylic letters, brushed bronze plaques, and more.
Elmhurst Auto Care: After fabricating and installing new sign panels and a message center in an exterior pylon sign for this customer, we designed and provided business gift certificates and business cards.
Often, customers approach Sign Artist with one or two sign needs. After having a great experience with our team, and seeing the professional, striking results in their newly-installed signs, customers get creative and return with a full basket of branding and signage needs. Signs of all kinds are a great way for businesses to get their message across, and attract new customers! How might we help you?
Making Great Signs To Last
What makes signs great? Let’s look at the MTC monument sign Sign Artist just fabricated and installed. Our crew clipped “darts” into the high-tech printed vinyl wrap on this Myers Technology sign back. They also brushed on a translucent sealer. Both tactics resulted in a high quality sign for this Elk Grove, Illinois machine company. Myers Technology started with a bold, eye-catching design in vivid tones. Sign Artist fabrication methods complemented the design, assuring that the sign would be smooth and durable.
With sun, wind, rain and snow beating on monument signs day in, day out, top fabrication values play a key role in making a sign last. A worst-case scenario, would be sign edges curling and fraying in the breeze! But Sign Artist standards make such a disaster highly unlikely.
This well-crafted MTC sign on our Sign Artist fabrication table, struck us as a work of art. The designer who accomplished this precision cutting and application, has her degree in fine arts. She is adept at working with a wide variety of media. She also collaborates with clients to design their own unique logos and branding. We couldn’t resist showcasing her work!
Overall, this striking sign reflects the pride Myers Technology takes in the machines it offers. It also reflects Sign Artist’s pride as creative and competent sign fabricators/installers.
The MTC monument sign was affixed onto a classic brick and mortar substrate. Another 21-st century option, is to install monuments made of cutting-edge, synthetic materials, like the Orion sign below. Mixing materials makes signs polished in appearance, and reduces costs. When clients prefer, Sign Artist installs high-density urethane monument signs. The base is a high-tech urethane that contracts and expands with the weather. This keeps cracks and other indicators of age at bay. With no masonry work needed, costs are decreased. Such signs can be adorned by 3-dimensional letters and graphics, or printed vinyl, on an acrylic panel,
Whether classic brick, urethane, acrylic, or applied vinyl, your monument sign can shine! Check out more exterior sign ideas here. Call Ed at 630-594-4185, to discuss your monument options!

200-plus Custom Signs at Clark & Division
Sign Artist is proud to help transform a former historic parking garage in Chicago into a stunning residential property. In the heart of Chicago’s Gold Coast, Sign Artist helped equip Latsko Interests’ new property. Our studio fabricated and installed 200-plus custom signs. This vintage brick building received the following:
- Perforated vinyl graphics covering 3rd-4th floor windows
- Nearly 200 ADA signs
- Side-lit LED channel address numbers atop main entrance
- Engraved aluminum plate for intercom system
- Framed evacuation plan
The day of the window install, 35-40 mph winds added some excitement. Sign Artist’s crew waited to ascend in the 65-foot-tall articulated lift. Finally, winds eased and they were good to go up and get the job started — around 10 PM! They completed the job around 2 AM. Mid-way through, pedestrians stopped to compliment our crew on the great-looking signs.
The sun rose to the newly-wrapped building at 1201 N. Clark Street. The graphics provide eye-popping visibility for contact information and rental unit availability. Perforated vinyl is also a high-tech material of choice for clients seeking high-profile window signage, that provides privacy, while allowing clear visibility from inside the structure. Addressing sign needs covering a vast array of materials and applications, makes Sign Artist a one-stop shop for clients like Latsko.
One unique challenge, included designing and installing the illuminated LED entry numbers. Affixing the numbers securely into a steel beam, meant fabricating and bolting into place a custom sub-assembly.
Another unique element, included an original design for multi-floor ADA room numbers. Precision laser cutting acrylic created the ADA braille “bumps” and numbers. Sign Artist applied translucent taupe vinyl with a contemporary pattern to the back of the signs, adapting them to 1201 Clark St. decor. How might we help you uniquely brand your residential unit or business?
Sign Artist Re-Brands Elmhurst College to University
Sign Artist helped Elmhurst College re-brand as a University! We transformed signs across campus, including the arch of the historic Gates of Knowledge shown here. This wrought-iron main entrance point to campus, is also a traditional site for graduation photos.
Sign Artist invited All Metal Group to collaborate and rejuvenate the Victorian-style arch, with its colorful cartouche at its pinnacle. The arch was dismantled, and years of battle against the elements sandblasted away. Wrought iron was newly painted, and custom metal letters were mounted.
For the arch reveal on July 1, 2020, Sign Artist contracted two Chicago theatrical companies to perform a kubuki curtain drop. Grand Stage Chicago built the truss work. Drape Kings provided the 300-square-foot royal blue curtain and automated drop system. A corps of social distancing college students gathered for the dramatic event.
Sign Artist also transformed:
- Directional signs across Elmhurst University campus
- Lettering on trucks and shuttle buses
- Five monument signs (see below)
- Wood plaque for Elmhurst University Athletic Hall of Fame
- New dimensional letters in Faganel Hall

Sign Rocks WKQX
WKQX, James & Sons Diamonds Engage Sign Artist
James & Sons Fine Jewelers wanted to extend its new branding to the studio that they sponsor at radio station WKQX 101.1. The sign needs to be visible both in dim light and daylight to harmonize with the alternative vibe of this Cumulus Media station.
The LED light box features an aluminum frame, durable polycarbonate face and stunning translucent graphics. An innovative grid pattern allows LED light to traverse the background of the sign for bright, even illumination. What’s even better is that the image may be changed if needed and the same light box used again!
Sign Artist Rocks WKQX!
Signs for the Future
While you are deciding how to approach the future of your business, your clients will also have their eyes on the future. Now is the time to solidify the relationship your business has with loyal customers, as well as attract new potential clients.
With the world changing so quickly around us, it can be easy to feel lost and unsure how to proceed. Sign Artist continues to assist our clients in preparing for the future, and we recommend taking this time of working remotely and unorthodox schedules to revisit your approach to business. Although Sign Artist specializes in signs of all kinds and other interior graphics, our graphic designer is available to tackle a wide range of design problems. Do you feel like your logo needs a refresh? Now is the very best time to update your branding. This may entail changing/modernizing your logo, replacing interior elements like wayfinding and ADA signs, updating lobby signs, and even trying something new like a large format photo wall mural.
With a wide pool of choices, first impressions on clients are more important than ever. To compete in the world beyond the internet, you will need to update all identifying features for your business. Signs should be kept clean, repaired, and replaced whenever necessary. Even if this may just entail changing the graphics in a cabinet sign, Sign Artist will be there to guide you through the process.
How can you start planning when you are working from home, or not able to meet with us in person? For the present, Sign Artist is conducting meetings and site visits virtually, and we will be flexible to your technology needs. For clients who do not wish to use Zoom, or other video apps, we can use phone and email to exchange information. With photos and measurements, our graphic designer will be able to create accurate renderings of your future sign in its destined location.
At Sign Artist, we believe in being there for clients. With the rise of Covid-19, we are also rising to the occasion with creativity, flexibility, and availability. We will continue to provide the very best in signage, customer service, and innovation.
Images Make Your Place Inspiring
We’re influenced consciously and unconsciously by our environments. A room with dim lighting and muted color promotes concentration and quiet. A club filled with lasers and a pulsating beat gets us moving and socializing. Workplaces depend on a blend of places to concentrate and places to communicate.
The open office space movement of recent years failed, IMHO, because it only addressed interactivity. When people needed to think in these environments, they donned earbuds and retro headphones to block distractions. Quiet rooms, sleek phone booths and space capsules are added to offices to try to eliminate noise and promote concentration and creative thought.
An effective method of creating space for concentration, creativity and community utilizes inspiring visuals, color and light. Sign Artist is excited about helping others create environments that inspire! We understand the energy generated by images that remind you to think, create and serve. Walls, windows and signs are cost-conscious platforms for creating a greater Place. Talk to us about your design goals, we’ll help you to visualize the possible. Choosing Sign Fonts
So many fonts, and so many unique choices! A business owner in the process of choosing a new sign may find themselves overwhelmed with available options. Sign Artist wants to share some tips on how to chose typefaces that are appealing, but also legible.
Fonts that work well in print may not always lead to readability on a large scale. Very thin fonts, or fonts with large stylized flourishes, will be difficult for many people to read.
Some of the most stylized fonts available on the internet are from places like 1001fonts.com. Many of these free fonts are so textured or complicated that they do not lend themselves easily to legibility. To create a professional sign for your business, Sign Artist advises owners to proceed with caution when choosing free fonts.
Sign Artist’s font advice? Stick with the classics. A font like Century Gothic or Garamond can easily be just as exciting if stylized with color and texture.
After all, the most fun type of sign is the sign that can be read by everybody!
Effective Wayfinding Signage
We’ve all been there: visiting an unfamiliar office park for the first time, desperately looking for some clue of where we are. The entrance signs are too small, or placed out of view, and we waste precious minutes attempting to find our final destination. This is what Sign Artist Inc. wants to help clients with: effective wayfinding signage.
Making your business accessible to everyone is also a by-product of effective wayfinding design. Large, easy-to-read fonts, and ADA compliance where applicable all work together to assist those of your customers who need them.
No matter how artistic and attractive a wayfinding sign is, it is not a good design if it is illegible, or unnecessarily complicated. The old Graphic Design rule stands: the most beautiful designs combine form and function. That means, they should be just as practical as they are pleasing to the eye.
Roosevelt University
When the Roosevelt University sign became Roosevel University, the Sign Artist team stepped up to replace the missing “T”.
First, we made sure the injured “T” got where it needed to go safely…
Then we made a replica “T”…
And up it went! The Sign Artist team was exited to help Roosevelt University repair its sign and illuminate downtown Chicago better than ever!
River East Library Monument Sign
Sign Artist Inc. was excited to help River East Public Library design and build a new monument sign! This LED-lighted cabinet sign is not only bright and colorful during the day, it illuminates the night as well. The staff at Sign Artist are avid readers, so we were eager to assist a public library in creating a new and vibrant look!
Privacy, Please! Frosted Glass is a Solution.
This week, the Sign Artist team customized the entrance to Grant Consulting Group’s Chicago office with precision cut lettering and 3M frosted privacy film. The graphics provide brand identity. Privacy film is a great choice for buildings with interior windows because it looks like etched glass. Different degrees of frosted glass are available. It’s a professional look for visitors, and provides privacy and light to employees.

Great Northern Instore Rebrands
United Displaycraft is a subsidiary of parent company Great Northern Instore (GNI). GNI is an expert at designing and building custom retail displays. This includes everything from Gatorade to Bridgestone tires. Each item we see in a store has a carefully engineered display to provide maximum visibility and key information about the product. Great Northern subsidiaries include those specializing in metal fabrication, wood crafting and high resolution printing. When it was time to update the signage, Great Northern Instore engaged Sign Artist Inc. to transform their branding into a highly visible set of signs along the busy thoroughfare north of O’Hare International Airport. Carefully matched to the corporation’s color standard, the bright, highly weather resistant acrylic panels are mounted onto the building using metal studs tightly lodged into the facade with silicone adhesive. The sign will withstand the harsh northern winters and blazing summer heat.
Sign Artist Brightens Your Event
Custom signs from Sign Artist will bring an extra flare to your celebration! The mother of the groom wanted a bright Chicago sign under which photos of family could be memorialized. Chicago’s Bridgeport Art Center was the venue, a great industrial-chic space from the world-class city’s past. To achieve the right effect, designer Erin Bartholomew worked with the family to create a sign that harmonized with the historical and artistic nature of the Skyline Loft. The sign was built with an internal frame to allow it to hang safely. Bright LED lighting brings the translucent sign face to life. A dimmer allows the photographer to adjust the brightness for optimal photos. 3M film allowed us to block the light in the dark areas, while it shone freely through the jewel-like embellishments of the Chicago Theater-inspired design.

These include 10 acrylic panels with corporate branding and messages. Featured among them is a world map with LED back-lighting to showcase the many global locations of the company. A space known as the “Bullpen” is both an area to stimulate conversation and to salute the history and environmental awareness of ND Paper.
